I want to give massive thanks to the APAs and all the judges for being awarded the Best Presenter-music award at this year’s APAs…
Citation: “The judges felt Cerys was a standout winner in her category. She never puts herself in the way of the music she is talking about, makes lateral connections in genres and styles, and has a fundamental respect for performers of all backgrounds. Her taste is not just eclectic, it’s uber-eclectic without forcing the listener to feel wrapped in some artificial zeitgeist. She is always generous towards her producers, asks their opinions about what works and what doesn’t, and always works hard to get the programme balance just right. As well as her regular shows on 6 Music and BBC World Service, she has also presented documentaries for BBC Radio 4 including a highly successful series on the EMI archives called His Master’s Voices.”
It was wonderful to be honoured amongst my peers on such a celebratory night, meeting new producers and presenters who revel in this wonderful field of audio.
I adore radio and podcasts etc, so this was an exceptionally pleasing accolade. My thanks to my team at BBC 6 music and BBC world service and all the independent producers and presenters I’ve had the privilege to work with and learn from this far.
Diolch xx
I welcomed journalists from disparate publications, from Wanderlust to the Rough Guide office, from the Telegraph to the Sun newspaper, to join me for lunch at L’escargot in Soho on the 22nd of November.
Together we took a dip in the rich cultural waters of Wales. I read poems and excerpts by RS Thomas, Idris Davies, Dylan Thomas, Dannie Abse and Sioned Davies’ The Mabinogion between the food courses as we were celebrating the launch of @visitwales ‘Year of Legends’ 2017.
It’s going to be a fun year: Wales’ literature, landscape, castles, monuments, artists, sports and science stars, history and myths are all there for us to enjoy sharing with the rest of the world in the coming months.
On my show this week we paid tribute to Jazz musician Mose Allison and welcomed Miriam Gonzalez Durantez to talk about her recent cook book ‘Made in Spain, Recipes and stories from my country and beyond.

Shirley Elizabeth Collins MBE is an English-British folk singer who was a significant contributor to the English Folk Revival of the 1960s and 1970s. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Music from Sussex University in July 2016.
Shirley spent time in the late 1950s collecting field recordings in the American South with ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax, a man 20 years her senior, a maverick thing to do for a single girl from England ..it’s a fascinating interview that you can listen to here :
